In a joint operation, Karnataka police and Central Intelligence officials have arrested a suspected terror operative from Uttar Pradesh allegedly linked to a Pakistan-based terror organisation, officials said on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Suhail, was arrested from a village of Davanagere district, where he had reportedly been living under the guise of a painter.

Police said the arrest was made following inputs gathered during interrogation of two suspected terrorists recently detained in Tumakuru and Davanagere for allegedly plotting terror-related activities. Those leads, officials said, pointed investigators to Suhail’s alleged role and location.

The operation was carried out jointly by Davanagere police, Central Intelligence officials and the district crime branch under the supervision of Davanagere Superintendent of Police H T Shekhar. A team led by Davanagere Rural Deputy Superintendent of Police Basavaraj participated in the raid.

Following his arrest, Suhail was taken to Tumakuru under tight security for further questioning by teams from Davanagere, Tumakuru and Central Intelligence units.

Commenting on the arrest, Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge said preliminary investigations had revealed that the accused was a migrant labourer from Uttar Pradesh who had allegedly been in contact with individuals across the border.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that he has been in touch with some people from across the border. We are investigating it further,” Kharge told reporters, adding that authorities acted after receiving information about his alleged communication with people in Pakistan and elsewhere.

The minister said investigators were now working to establish the identities of those he had been in contact with and determine the purpose of those interactions. “Further investigation will reveal who he is in touch with and what he intended to do,” Kharge said.

Officials said the probe is continuing and further details about the suspected network and the extent of Suhail's alleged involvement are yet to be ascertained.
