A traditional bull-chasing festival in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district turned chaotic on Thursday, leaving over 10 people injured, some of them seriously, after a bull charged into the crowd.
The incident took place during the Kari Hariyuvudu ritual, a local tradition held a week after Kaar Hunnime in Kakhandaki village, where villagers tie and provoke bulls and oxen as part of the celebrations.
Eyewitnesses said one of the bulls broke free from its handlers and ran straight into the gathered crowd. The sudden charge sparked panic, with women, children, and youth seen sprinting in different directions to escape.
Several of the injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals. Authorities are yet to confirm the exact number of seriously injured individuals.
