Karnataka mandates CCTV cameras, QR codes to secure temple donations
The Karnataka government has announced a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to secure temple donations and prevent fraud. Under the new guidelines, installing CCTV cameras will be mandatory in temples across the state, particularly those affiliated with the Mujrai Department that receive large donations. These cameras will provide 360-degree coverage around the donation boxes, and the live feeds will be linked directly to local police stations or headquarters for continuous monitoring. Additionally, the state will promote digital transactions through authorised QR codes and UPI payments to ensure a clear audit trail of all contributions. Designated officials will also supervise the counting of cash and physical donations.
