A massive landslide triggered by heavy rains has struck the Kalpetta Tunnel project site in Kerala's Wayanad, leaving at least seven workers feared trapped under the debris. Emergency rescue operations are underway on a war footing. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority reported that debris from the excavation blocked nearby roads and injured five people, who have been hospitalised. Following the incident, the Kerala Chief Minister held an urgent meeting and directed state ministers to coordinate immediate relief operations. Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Wayanad and Kozhikode districts following very heavy rainfall, while orange alerts were issued in Malappuram, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts.
