CCTV: Narrow escape for pedestrians as slush sweeps away fuel tanker in Wayanad

A chilling CCTV video of the massive landslide in Kerala's Wayanad has gone viral on social media, capturing the terrifying moment tonnes of mud and debris came crashing down near the Anakkampoyil-Kalladi-Meppadi twin tunnel project. The footage shows thick slush barrelling down the hillside, uprooting trees and engulfing the area within seconds as people scramble to safety.

The incident claimed two lives, injured eight others, and left at least seven workers missing. The landslide struck near Meenakshi Bridge following incessant rainfall, with the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority recording 265 mm of rain in 24 hours—the highest this season.

The site, located close to Mundakkai, which witnessed the devastating 2024 landslides, also has houses and homestays, raising fears that more people could be trapped. Kerala Agriculture Minister T Siddique termed the incident a "man-made" disaster, blaming the Konkan Railway Corporation Limited, which is executing the tunnel project.
