A day after PM Modi outlined a tactical manual to combat soaring oil prices and global supply chain disruptions triggered by the West Asia war, Aam Aadmi Party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal asked whether the measures were suggested anticipating a nationwide ‘economic emergency?’

Sharing a post from his X account, Kejriwal wrote, “The Prime Minister has advised all citizens of the country to cut back on food and drink, to cut back on travel and sightseeing, and to cut back even on purchasing gold and other precious items. Is this the harbinger of an economic emergency?”

Questioning the Modi government’s economic policies, Kejriwal further wrote, “Has the country become mired in a severe economic crisis? Nothing like this has ever happened in the country before.”

As part of the economic self-defence strategy amidst a global crisis, Prime Minister Modi urged citizens on Sunday to reduce petrol consumption, resume working from home, avoid gold purchases, and defer international travel for special events. He further recommended adopting public transport and electric vehicles to mitigate economic pressure.

These suggestions sparked widespread speculation regarding national economic instability, prompting Arvind Kejriwal to demand that the Prime Minister transparently disclose the present state of the economy to the public.

“The Prime Minister should lay the truth bare before the nation. After all, what is the real state of the country's economy?” he wrote.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party targeted the Prime Minister for allegedly failing to follow his own counsel. In several posts, the party accused him of acting in direct contradiction to his own recommendations.

In one post, the party shared a video highlighting the Prime Minister's call for citizens to reduce energy consumption. The clip juxtaposed his advice with footage from just two hours later, showing him conducting a roadshow in Gujarat with an extensive motorcade.
