"A search of his bag led to the recovery of a laptop, keyboard, mouse and original case files belonging to several investigating officers. It was found that the man had been moving around police stations and taking money from the public," Ashish said.

He said several case files were found on Kumar's laptop and that he appeared to be involved in writing police diaries and forwarding them to others. A case has been registered against him at Salkhua police station under various sections of the BNS.

"The 10 investigating officers, whose files were found with the accused and who were found to be complicit, have been suspended with immediate effect and sent to the police lines," Ashish said. He added that departmental proceedings would also be started against them and the police would ensure "the strictest possible punishment" for those found guilty.
