3 workers killed in factory blast in Raipur, oxygen cylinder explosion suspected
A powerful explosion tore through a factory in Raipur's Bendri area, killing three workers and sparking a fire. Investigators are examining whether an oxygen cylinder blast caused the incident as the site remains sealed.
Three workers were killed after a powerful explosion ripped through a 3D factory in Bendri under the Urla police station limits in Raipur on Tuesday, officials said.
According to officials, two workers died on the spot, while a third succumbed to injuries while being shifted to a hospital. Authorities said no other injuries have been reported.
The deceased were identified as Arun Pandey, a resident of Chhattisgarh's Janjgir-Champa district, and Komal Singh and Lal Singh, both residents of Dindori district in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, the official told PTI.
The factory manufactures ferroalloys and pig iron, he said.
The explosion triggered a fire inside the factory, causing panic among workers and nearby residents. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. Emergency teams brought the blaze under control and later completely extinguished it.
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has started examining the site to determine the exact cause of the explosion. While preliminary reports suggest that an oxygen cylinder explosion may have triggered the blast, officials have not confirmed the cause and said the investigation remains underway.
Senior police officers, led by DCP North Mayank Gurjar, reached the scene immediately after the incident. Officials credited the prompt response of the police and emergency services with containing the fire quickly and preventing further casualties.
Authorities have secured the factory premises and are continuing their investigation into the circumstances that led to the explosion. Officials said they will take further action based on the findings of the forensic examination and the official inquiry.
