Delhi Police on Monday said that protesters during the CJP's march resorted to violence, attacked police personnel and damaged public property.

In a statement, Delhi Police alleged that despite repeated warnings and directions to disperse, protesters violated prohibitory orders and tried to break through barricades. The force said protesters pelted stones, damaged police and government vehicles, and created a situation that threatened public order and the safety of personnel deployed on duty.

According to Delhi Police, more than 118 police personnel were injured during the clashes, including senior officers from the ranks of Special Commissioner of Police, Joint Commissioner of Police, Additional Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police and other officials. Several women police personnel were also injured.

The police said around 60 protesters were also reported to have sustained injuries during the clashes, while the medical examination of the remaining injured personnel is underway.

Delhi Police further said that around 15 to 20 government vehicles and other public property were damaged during the incident. Read more here.

Government sources said Home Minister Amit Shah monitored the situation throughout the day and remained in touch with senior officials as the CJP protest unfolded, while security forces were instructed to use minimal force wherever possible. Sources also said the government held two meetings with CJP representatives, during which Union Minister JP Nadda received their written memorandum but did not assure them on any of their demands, instead urging them to end the protest and help restore normalcy. Defending its handling of the NEET controversy, the government maintained that over 50 lakh students had appeared for NEET, JEE and CUET this year, with counselling and admissions already underway for many, and reiterated that it had ordered a re-examination within a month of the paper leak, fixed accountability and implemented corrective measures to strengthen the examination system.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Central Range) Madhur Verma said Delhi Police detained several protesters after an "unlawful assembly" turned violent, with incidents of stone-pelting reported during the protest.

"There was an unlawful assembly that had to be dealt with. There were some incidents of stone-pelting, and the Delhi Police have detained some protesters. Appropriate action is being taken," Verma said.

While security agencies tracked developments on the ground in real time, senior ministers held a series of high-level meetings to assess the evolving situation, review the protesters' demands and formulate the Centre's response. Read more here.

Amid the 'Chalo Sansad' march, the government held a series of meetings at Parliament House with Union Home Minister Amit Shah assessing the situation.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was the first to meet Shah at around 1:08 pm. The two leaders held discussions for nearly 45 to 50 minutes, during which Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also joined the meeting. Later, around 2:12 pm, Union Minister Piyush Goyal also arrived and joined the discussions.

Amid the meetings, the government informed that representatives of the protesters had met Union Minister JP Nadda and that their memorandum had been accepted. Sources said the government is likely to issue an official statement on the meeting soon.

Delhi Police is registering separate FIRs based on complaints received from different locations during the CJP protest, sources said on Monday.

According to police sources, more than 70 people have been detained in connection with the violence and clashes reported during the agitation.

Sources further said that over 50 personnel, including Delhi Police officers and members of paramilitary forces deployed for security, were injured during the protest.

Police are currently examining CCTV footage and mobile phone videos from various locations to identify those involved and ascertain the sequence of events, sources added.

As many as 53 protesters detained during the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar have been taken to Chhatrasal Stadium, according to lawyers assisting those held by the police.

A lawyer involved in handling the cases said the detainees were being kept at the stadium. One person who sustained injuries during the protest was released after receiving medical attention, while the remaining detainees continue to be held.

According to the lawyer, authorities have not allowed legal representatives to meet the detainees and have restricted access to the facility. "There is no clarity yet on when they will be released," the lawyer said.

Lawyers representing the protesters were on their way to Chhatrasal Stadium to seek access to the detainees and obtain details about their legal status.

Meanwhile, visuals shared by news agency ANI showed the aftermath of the clash between police and CJP protesters at the Hanuman Mandir Road.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday slammed the Centre over police lathi-charging protesters, demanding that a detailed discussion on the paper leaks issue should take place in Parliament and Prime Minister Narendra Modi respond to the concerns of the country's youth.

A large number of students and protesters tried to march towards Parliament following a call given by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), only to be met by police teargas and lathi-charges in a spiralling protest that started with exam paper leaks and gained traction with activist Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike.

Asked about the use of force against protesters, Priyanka Gandhi told reporters in the Parliament House complex, "It's ridiculous... They are our own children... they are the future of the country. This Parliament belongs to them. It's no one's personal fiefdom."

She said the paper leak is a genuine issue and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has been raising it for quite some time.

Activist Sonam Wangchuk has said he will continue his hunger strike, which has entered its 23rd day, till the youth leaders are allowed to meet the MPs at Parliament or he is allowed to meet them at Safdarjung Hospital, where he is admitted.

In a message sent through his wife and posted on X, Wangchuk hoped the protesters will show the same patience and tolerance on Tuesday despite facing tear-gas and lathicharges by police.

"When these students raised legitimate questions about the education system, they were met with batons and detention. Those responsible for leaks are free, while students raising genuine concerns are dragged away and beaten. This government is not just failing the youth — it is turning against them," he added.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Monday criticised the police action against NEET protesters who marched towards Parliament, alleging that the Centre was using force to suppress students raising concerns over the paper leak controversy.

Reddy said students demanding justice over the NEET paper leak were met with lathis and tear gas while attempting to highlight their grievances.

"The central government is using police force to silence the very youth, whose future it has endangered," he said.

The Telangana Chief Minister alleged that the action against protesting students reflected the government's unwillingness to face questions and democratic dissent.

Connaught Place, Delhi: Delhi Police resorted to a lathi charge at Palika Market as RAF personnel and Delhi Police pushed back protesters. CJP protesters have gathered at the Inner Circle of Connaught Place, while security forces continue efforts to disperse the crowd.

Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday condemned the police action during the CJP protest in Delhi, alleging "brutality" against students and young protesters.

"What kind of government fears its own students? What kind of democracy responds to questions with batons and tear gas instead of dialogue?" Banerjee said in a statement. She said dissent was not a crime and accused the government of using force instead of engaging with protesters.

"The nation belongs to its students, farmers, women, workers and every citizen. Brutality is not governance. Accountability is non-negotiable," she said. Banerjee also expressed solidarity with the protesters, praising their "courage, resilience and indomitable spirit."

According to Delhi Police sources, several police personnel were injured during Monday's protest, while several vehicles were vandalised in areas around the Parliament Police Station. Police have detained multiple people in connection with the incidents and are likely to register several cases, sources said.
