The Allahabad High Court ordered the city municipal corporation to undertake proper fogging and sanitisation of the city to check the Covid-19 spread in it.

The Covid-19 tally in the financial capital increased to 1,58,756 with the addition of 1,346 new cases, while 42 fresh deaths took the toll to 7,939.

Over 45,000 Covid-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours for the first time in the national capital, which recorded 3,609 fresh coronavirus cases, the highest single-day spike in 76 days, taking the tally to over 1.97 lakh, authorities said.

Amid rise in daily count of coronavirus cases, the Centre said it is getting complaints from state governments about people becoming lax in taking precautions and asserted that public health measures like social distancing and wearing masks remain key to slowing the pandemic.

Maharashtra reported 20,131 new Covid-19 cases, taking its tally to 9,43,772, the state health department said.

"It has decided not to provide any bed roll, bed linen items to passengers til further advice on the matter by the railway board," Railway ministry sources said. "Railways has floated a notice to drop all demands and tenders for procurement of bed roll/bed linen items for passengers."

Undergoing RT-PCR test for Covid infection 72 hours prior to the start of the monsoon session from September 21 is mandatory for all those attending it, Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri said.

The number of Covid-19 cases in Ahmedabad district rose by 170 to 32,866, Gujarat health department said.

Jammu and Kashmir witnessed its biggest single-day spike of 1,355 Covid-19 cases, pushing the Union Territory's infection tally to 45,925, while the death toll from the disease rose to 815 with 14 fatalities in the past 24 hours

"Delhi govt has increased testing multi-fold. I have directed Health Minister this morning that Doctor's prescription shud not be asked for testing. Anyone can get himself tested," Arvind Kejriwal said on Twitter.

Rajkot has reported the third highest number of daily Covid-19 cases in Gujarat after Surat and Ahmedabad in the last few days, official said, attributing the rise to increased testing.

The Delhi High Court said people need to carry Aadhaar card for Delhi address proof, fill ICMR form for Covid-19 testing.

The monsoon session of West Bengal assembly will be held for only a day on September 9 due to the ongoing pandemic, Speaker Biman Banerjee said.

Gujarat BJP president CR Paatil has been tested positive for coronavirus. Along with BJP president, a total of seven BJP office bearers have tested positive for coronavirus.

"Five most affected states account for approx 70% deaths (Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu)," the health ministry said.

"Five states account for 62% of active cases across the country (Maharashtra - 27%, AP - 11%, Karnataka - 10.98%, UP - 7%, TN - 5.80%)," the health ministry said.

"1.70 per cent is case fatality rate as opposed to global fatality rate. Yes, whole numbers are increasing but cases per million population amongst lowest in the world. 21 states/UTs are performing more tests per million in comparison to national average," Health Ministry said in a fresh update.

The Uttar Pradesh government revoked its order of mandatory closure of markets on Sunday, reverting to the pre-coronavirus lockdown arrangement.

Several British ministers and medics are urging the public, especially youngsters, to follow Covid-19 safety protocols besides urging them to "get serious" about the fresh rise in coronavirus infections in the country, reported news agency Reuters. Britain reported close to 3,000 new cases on Sunday and Monday. Health Secretary Matt Hancock said younger people have become "too relaxed" about social distancing and they could endanger the lives of older members in their family.

Several studies have showed how Covid-19 causes more than just respiratory issues in human beings. A new study has now highlighted that coronavirus patients are likely to develop active and prolonged gut viral infection even in the absence of symptoms.

A Bloomberg report said scientists in Hong Kong have conducted a study which shows that the coronavirus may continue to infect and replicate in the digestive tract after clearing the airways. Researchers from the Chinese University of Hong Kong mentioned the details of the study in a statement on Monday.

A senior Samajwadi Party leader and Member of Legislative Council SRS Yadav on Tuesday died of Covid-19 infection in Lucknow, said the party.

The 87-year-old leader had tested positive for coronavirus on September 1. He died at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow late on Monday, said SP national spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary.

Rajasthan has reported seven more coronavirus-related fatalities, taking the total death toll in the state to 1,158. The total number of cases in Rajasthan now stands at 93,257.

Himachal Pradesh has reported 18 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 7,703 including 2,267 active cases. Over 5,4300 people have recovered in the state and 57 deaths have been recorded so far, said the state health department.

Spain has become the first country in Western Europe to pass five lakh novel coronavirus infections, reported news agency AFP. The country had gained control over its outbreak earlier, but infections have again surged since restrictions were fullt removed at the end of June.

At least 348 Maharashtra police personnel have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours. One death has also been reported. Total number of positive cases in the state police force has gone up to 17,439 including 3,225 active cases, 14,037 recoveries and 177 deaths, according to Maharashtra Police.

India has reported 1,133 coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours. While India had been reporting over 1,000 daily deaths for the past few days, the number of deaths in past 24 hours is the second biggest single-day spike in India.

India’s coronavirus tally is likely to cross 43 lakh by the end of Tuesday after the country reported over 75,000 cases in the past 24 hours. With over 15,000 cases reported in the last 24 hours, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state in India. As of now, Maharashtra has 2,36,208 cases, the highest among all Indian states and UTs.

India on Tuesday reported a daily spike of 75,809 fresh novel coronavirus cases, taking the total number of registered cases to 42,80,423 including 8,83,697 active case. India has also reported 1,133 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total toll to 72,775. According to fresh data updated by the health ministry, more than 33 lakh people have recovered after getting infected.

Over five crore samples have been tested for coronavirus in India till September 7. Of the total number of samples tested, 10,98,621 were tested yesterday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

As India witnesses a second round of surge in Covid-19 cases, doctors at one of the largest private coronavirus facilities in Delhi told news agency Reuters that they are exhausted and facing staff shortages after nearly six months of relentless work. The national capital has witnessed a sharp surge in daily coronavirus cases and India now has over 42 lakh cases, surpassing Brazil to become the second-worst-hit country after the United States. While states have been given permission to reopen their economies after a three-month strict lockdown, experts indicate that relaxing measures will lead to an exponential rise in cases. Hospitals in Delhi, which is now witnessing a surge of over 3,000 cases in a day, are again under pressure as patients from other states are now traveling into the city in search of better healthcare. This has put extreme pressure on the national capital's healthcare system with doctors admitting that they are exhausted.

The Karnataka government has instructed officials to conduct a clinical study on cases of coronavirus reinfection. The World Health Organisation (WHO) said that it is talks with India about joining the 'COVAX' global vaccine allocation plan, reported news agency Reuters. "India is certainly eligible, like all countries in the world, to be part of the COVAX facility and discussions are ongoing in that regard," Bruce Aylward told a briefing in Geneva. "We would welcome Indian participation ...India has extensive experience (with vaccines)," Awlward added. It may be noted that the WHO and GAVI vaccine alliance are leading the COVAX facility, which is aimed at helping buy and distribute shots against the novel coronavirus fairly around the world.

At least 15,000 commuters availed Delhi Metro services which resumed on its Yellow Line on Monday with strict measures in place. Metro services resumed in Delhi and a few other states on Monday as part of the Centre's 'Unlock 4' guidelines. Delhi Metro operations resumed on Monday after nearly five months. It may be noted that the Delhi Metro did not witness the usual rush after resumption and most stations bore a deserted look. Most commuters said they were happy with the resumption of Metro services as most communters said they do not have any other option. Meanwhile, cases in India are now rising faster than ever with over 90,000 cases reported daily for the past three days.

The first batch of Russia's Covid-19 vaccine, Sputnik V, has been released into civil circulation, according to the Russian Health Ministry. The vaccine, developed by Russia's Gamalya National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), has passed necessary quality tests in the laboratories of Roszdranvnadzor (medical device regulator), said the ministry in a statement. "The first batch of the 'Gam-COVID-Vac' (Sputnik V) vaccine for the prevention of the new coronavirus infection, developed by the Gamaleya National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Ministry of Health of Russia, has passed the necessary quality tests in the laboratories of Roszdravnadzor (medical device regulator) and has been released into civil circulation," the ministry said in a statement. While Russia has released the vaccine into public circulation, medical experts around the globe including members of the World Health Organisation had earlier raised doubts over the Russian vaccine as it had not completed the trials which are a part of mandatory procedure.
