Delhi govt to repair classrooms, build modern labs under Mission Kayakalp

The Delhi government has launched Mission Kayakalp to repair and upgrade infrastructure in government schools. The programme aims to create safer, cleaner and better-equipped learning spaces with community support.

The Delhi government has launched Mission Kayakalp to upgrade infrastructure in government schools, with plans for repairs, modern laboratories, clean drinking water facilities and campus improvements across districts. The initiative is aimed at creating safer and better learning spaces for students.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the programme seeks to turn government schools into modern, clean and inspiring learning spaces, and not just centres of education.

She said the work is being carried out with support from district administrations, the Education Department, CSR initiatives, social organisations, market associations and local communities, and added that public participation is helping speed up the changes.

FOCUS ON REPAIRING BUILDINGS

According to a statement, Mission Kayakalp focuses on repairing school buildings, painting and whitewashing walls, waterproofing, improving rooftop drainage, renovating toilets, installing RO plants and water coolers, modernising science laboratories, developing facilities for children with special needs and increasing greenery on campuses.

The statement said work has already been completed or is under way in government schools across the North, South, West, North-East and Outer North districts. In the North district, a sensory park for children with special needs has been renovated, while RO plants and water coolers have been installed and a physics laboratory modernised in selected schools.

REPAIR WORKS HAVE BEGUN

It said schools in Mehrauli and Qutub Mehrauli have seen repairs to toilets, roofs and damaged plaster, repainting of buildings, installation of water coolers and plantation drives. In West Delhi, schools in Mohan Garden and Janakpuri are being upgraded with roof repairs, waterproofing, rainwater harvesting systems, sewer line improvements, electrical works and better drinking water facilities. Schools in Gokalpur and Shahdara have also been provided renovated toilets, repaired buildings, fresh paint, water coolers, plantation and improved library facilities.

Gupta said several schools have already seen visible changes under the programme, with improved infrastructure replacing dilapidated buildings and inadequate facilities. She said the government would continue to strengthen school infrastructure to provide students with a better learning environment.
