The accident occurred late at night on the Ambad-Jalna Road near a Reliance petrol pump on the outskirts of Ambad town.
According to police, Vikas Dagdoba Chavan (26), Sagar Deepak Barde (20) and Shubham Ganesh Bahule, residents of Kumbhajhari village in Jafrabad taluka, had set out for Madhi for darshan at a temple. Vikas had borrowed a WagonR car belonging to his maternal uncle, Sanjay Damodar Shinde, for the trip.
The three friends left Kumbhajhari at around 5 p.m. and were on their way to the shrine when their vehicle collided head-on with a truck near Ambad.
The impact of the crash was severe, leaving the car mangled beyond recognition.
Vikas Chavan died on the spot, while Sagar Barde, who sustained critical injuries, succumbed during treatment. Shubham Bahule was seriously injured and was initially admitted to the Sub-District Hospital in Ambad before being referred to a hospital in Jalna for advanced treatment.
Ambad police rushed to the scene after receiving information about the accident. Officers helped shift the victims to hospital and conducted a preliminary investigation before registering a case.
The tragedy has left families and residents of Kumbhajhari village in mourning.
Vikas was reportedly the sole breadwinner of his family and is survived by his mother and sister. Sagar worked as a daily-wage labourer and is survived by his mother and brother.
