A fire at a businessman's home in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad, initially believed to be an accidental blaze, has taken a dramatic turn after a viral video allegedly showed him setting a sofa on fire inside the house. Police have launched an investigation to verify the authenticity of the footage and determine whether the blaze was deliberately started.

The incident took place on July 1 at a house in Raj Nagar Sector-14 under the Kavinagar police station limits. Firefighters rushed to the spot after receiving information about the blaze and managed to bring the fire under control.

The footage has cast fresh doubts over the circumstances surrounding the incident, which was initially treated as a routine fire.

According to sources, a domestic dispute within the family may have been behind the incident. The family had reportedly been facing tensions for several days before the fire.

Women and children were present inside the house at the time of the incident. Had the flames not been brought under control in time, the fire could have led to a major tragedy.

Police said no written complaint has been received from the family so far, and no FIR has been registered.

ACP Kavinagar Suryabali Maurya said police were examining the viral video and investigating the sequence of events.

"A video showing the fire being started has gone viral on social media. We are verifying the authenticity of the video and investigating the entire incident. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation," he said.

Police said that if the video is found to be genuine and the fire is proven to have been started deliberately, the case could attract serious legal action under provisions relating to public safety and other relevant offences.
