The arrested accused have been identified as Salina Shahi (26) and Ravina Virendra alias Vivek Shahi (28), both natives of Nepal.

DUO WORKED AS MAIDS TO GATHER INFORMATION

Police said the duo would work as maids in households, gather information about the families' routines and alert other members of the gang whenever the occupants were away, enabling them to steal cash, jewellery and other valuables.

During interrogation, the women allegedly confessed to their involvement in thefts at three houses in Pune and one in Bengaluru, in addition to cases registered in Adipur and other parts of Maharashtra.

Police said the gang was responsible for six interstate house thefts with the total value of stolen property estimated at more than Rs 1 crore.

During the operation, officers recovered a gold ring, two mobile phones and Indian currency worth Rs 1,85,790 from the two accused.

INVESTIGATION IS IN PROGRESS

The arrests followed an investigation carried out by the Adipur Police with assistance from the Gandhidham Cyber Crime Police, the Local Crime Branch (LCB) and surveillance teams.

Acting on information that two Nepali women were seeking domestic work in housing societies in Adipur, police launched a coordinated operation and apprehended them before they could allegedly commit another theft.

Investigators said the stolen gold and other valuables were allegedly taken to Nepal and sold, with the proceeds reportedly spent on travel, entertainment and air tickets.

Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest the remaining accused, identified as Bhim Bahadur Shahi, Narendra Bahadur alias Vivek Shahi, and Bhimbir alias Prans Shahi.

Further investigation is in progress to determine the full extent of the alleged interstate theft network.
