A man in Madhya Pradesh attempted suicide by consuming poison after accusing his wife of harassment in a video message shared on a WhatsApp group, police said.
The man, identified as Venkat Sharma, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital and remains in critical condition.
According to police, the incident took place at the Manpur government housing complex in Gwalior. Sharma allegedly consumed a poisonous substance inside his flat after recording a video detailing his ordeal.
Before the incident, Sharma recorded a video detailing his trauma and shared it on a society WhatsApp group. In the video, he made serious allegations against his wife, claiming she was involved in multiple relationships and was keeping their son away from him.
He further alleged that his wife was in frequent contact with several people late at night and said that when he confronted her over the issue, he was allegedly threatened. Sharma also claimed that he was being denied access to his son, which led to severe emotional distress.
After consuming poison, Sharma's condition worsened, prompting neighbours to rush him to a nearby hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Police said they have begun an investigation based on the video statement and other available evidence. Officials added that the allegations made in the video are being verified and that statements from relevant individuals will be recorded as part of the probe.
