Nagpur IIIT student jumps to death from 9th floor of hostel over exam stress
A second-year IIIT Nagpur student died by suicide after jumping from a ninth-floor hostel building over exam stress.

A second-year student of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Nagpur died by suicide after allegedly jumping from the ninth floor of a hostel building on campus in the early hours of Monday, police said, adding that he was under stress over incomplete studies.
The victim, identified as 20-year-old Shreyash Chandrakant Mane, a native of Kolhapur, was pursuing Computer Science at the institute.
According to police, Mane’s semester examinations were scheduled to begin in a few days, and he was reportedly under stress over incomplete studies. The incident occurred between 4 am and 4.30 am while most hostel residents were asleep.
No suicide note was recovered from the scene, police added.
“A case of accidental death has been registered. We are probing all angles, including personal and academic,” assistant inspector Nilesh Chaure said.
Following the incident, a large number of students gathered on campus, expressing shock and anguish.
Officials said further clarity on the circumstances leading to the death is expected after examination of the student’s mobile phone. An investigation is underway.
