Mahua Moitra targeted with eggs, brinjals. TMC MP livestreams incident
Mahua Moitra alleged that BJP goons threw eggs and brinjals at her Krishnanagar office. The incident added to familiar post-poll scenes of eggs being pelted at Trinamool leaders amid chants of 'chor, chor'.

Following the Trinamool Congress's defeat in the Assembly polls, eggs flying at TMC leaders and crowds chanting "chor, chor" have become common. On Wednesday, TMC MP Mahua Moitra became the latest target of "dim-o-cracy". In a Facebook Live broadcast, Moitra accused "BJP goons" of throwing eggs and brinjals at an eatery in Krishnanagar, where she was holding a meeting with party workers.
Interestingly, the incident came on a day the Calcutta High Court pulled up the BJP-led Bengal government over the spate of egg-hurling incidents against TMC leaders. The court said that hurling eggs at politicians "has become a social evil".
MAHUA MOITRA SHARES LIVE BROADCAST
On Wednesday, a group of protesters gathered outside the building, waved black flags and raised "go back" slogans. Visuals showed the crowd throwing eggs and brinjals at the building, targeting Moitra.
Broadcasting live from the upper floor of the party office, Moitra said, "This is the law-and-order situation in the state. None of these people are ordinary citizens; they are BJP goons," the Lok Sabha MP from Krishnanagar said.
In the video, Moitra could be seen protecting herself using a curtain as the mob continued to throw eggs and brinjals towards the window.
Moitra further said that police and CRPF arrived at the spot only after 15 minutes.
"I have called the DGP and everybody else, but the police are sitting and watching. I want all of India to see this. The CRPF is not being able to disperse the crowd," the MP further said.
"Their faces are clearly visible. Later, the police will say they cannot identify them," she further said.
The TMC MP is then heard telling the party workers that she was not someone who would bow down and declined to take police protection.
"This is my area. I am the MP from here. I am not going to move. The whole Bengal should see the goonda gardi," she further said.
Later, she posted another video on X, tagging the Bengal police chief. "For the past 2 hours... your police is watching the fun and not dispersing the mob. They want me to flee, and they will pelt eggs/stones while I enter my car," Moitra tweeted.
Earlier this month, Moitra avoided a similar situation. On June 13, Moitra claimed that BJP Mahila Morcha workers gathered outside the Krishnanagar court with eggs and tomatoes ahead of her appearance in connection with a case. She, however, did not turn up that day.
HIGH COURT ISSUES DIRECTIONS TO GOVT
While it has been over two months since the Bengal polls, public anger against TMC leaders has not subsided. People have taken to throwing eggs at TMC leaders accused of corruption. The party has, however, accused the BJP of being behind the incidents.
It started with Mamata Banerjee's nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, being targeted with eggs in May when he went to visit the families of party workers affected by post-poll violence. The eggs thrown at him stained his white shirt, and the Lok Sabha MP had to wear a cricket helmet to protect himself.
Since then, over a dozen TMC MLAs and leaders have been targeted similarly.
Earlier in the day, the Calcutta High Court directed the Bengal government to rein in such incidents. The court asked the government to file a report detailing the number of arrests and actions taken against those accused of hurling eggs.
The court's directions came on a plea filed by Abhishek Banerjee.
