Woman delivers quadruplets in auto in Madhya Pradesh, all four premature babies die
A woman gave birth to quadruplets in an autorickshaw en route to a hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Mandla district, where all four premature newborns died, with the family blaming the absence of an ambulance.

A woman gave birth to quadruplets in an autorickshaw while being taken to hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Mandla district, and all four babies died shortly after birth, officials said on Tuesday. Her family alleged that the lack of an ambulance cost the newborns their lives, while health officials said the babies died because they were born prematurely and were not fully developed.
The woman, Rajni Singaram, is now admitted to the Bichhiya Community Health Centre and is out of danger. Her husband said the babies could have survived if an ambulance had been made available on time.
District Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr DJ Mohanty said Rajni Singaram, a resident of Naigaon, was first taken to the government health centre in Ghuthas in a private vehicle after she developed labour pain in the seventh month of her pregnancy.
Because of her critical condition, she was referred to the community health centre in Bichhiya and was being taken there in an autorickshaw, he said.
Before reaching the community health centre, she delivered four babies in the vehicle, Mohanty said. He added, "All four babies -- three girls and a boy -- died because they were premature and weighed around 1.5 kilograms each."
Family members alleged that they had called the emergency ambulance service after Rajni went into labour, but did not get a response and had to take her to hospital in an autorickshaw.
Her husband, Ganesh Singaram, claimed that if an ambulance had arrived on time, his children could have been saved.
Asked about the allegations, Mandla District Magistrate Rahul Namdev Dhote told PTI that he had not received any complaint in the matter so far.
He said the case would be investigated and necessary action taken if a complaint was received. The incident centred on the death of the four premature babies, while the mother remains under treatment and out of danger.
