Monsoon Tracker Live: Toll in Kerala landslide rises to 7; landslide cuts road link to Sikkim's Gangtok

Traffic has been restored on the Gangotri National Highway after the road, which was blocked due to a landslide and debris near Nalupani, was cleared.

Heavy rain triggered a flash flood in the Pejar Nala in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district, cutting off Lippa village after an iron bridge was submerged and declared unsafe.

Authorities said continuous rainfall has caused rivers and streams across Kinnaur district to swell rapidly. The flash flood on Thursday blocked the flow of the Teti Khad and carried stones and debris into residential areas, damaging several houses. Homes near the bridge were also reported to be at risk.

While no casualties were reported, the damaged footpath and submerged bridge have disrupted movement.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday directed officials to expedite relief measures after heavy rain and lightning caused loss of life, livestock and property in parts of the state. The Chief Minister expressed condolences to the families of those who died and ordered officials to assess the damage and ensure compensation is disbursed within 24 hours. He also directed senior officials to visit affected areas, stay in touch with impacted families and provide all possible assistance and relief.

Rain alerts for 46 districts across Uttar Pradesh were issued on Friday, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall as monsoon activity intensifies.

An orange alert for extremely heavy rain has been issued for 18 districts, including Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Bijnor, Moradabad, Bareilly, Pilibhit and Shahjahanpur.

A yellow alert for heavy rain is in place for 28 other districts, including Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, Kanpur, Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur and Aligarh.

A major landslide triggered by continuous heavy rain blocked National Highway 10 between Singtam and Rangpo in Sikkim on Thursday, disrupting the road link to Gangtok. The landslide occurred at the 20th Mile stretch, leaving the highway completely blocked by mud and debris. The local administration has launched clearance operations, but persistent heavy rain has slowed efforts to reopen the road.

One more body was recovered from the Wayanad landslide site on Friday, taking the total number of persons killed in the disaster to seven, district officials said.

The two persons missing till now were Rakesh Guchait, a surveyor from West Bengal, and Vikram Rana, a construction manager from Himachal Pradesh, and it is yet to be identified whose body was recovered from near the river, the officials said.

With this, only one more person remains to be found.

A landslide blocked the Gangotri Highway at Nalu Pani in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district, disrupting traffic along the route. Road-clearing teams have been deployed, and efforts are underway to remove the debris and restore vehicular movement.

Himachal's Shimla and Sirmaur districts are set to receive more rain on Friday, with moderate to heavy showers likely in Solan. Moderate rainfall is expected in Kullu, Mandi, Kinnaur, Hamirpur and Chamba, while Kangra, Una and Bilaspur are likely to receive light to moderate rain. Lahaul-Spiti is expected to see light showers.

For Shimla city, the IMD said light to moderate rain, with a few intense spells, is likely over the next few hours before gradually easing later in the day.

Heavy rain in Uttarakhand has caused the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers to swell, prompting authorities to close schools in Rudraprayag district on Friday. The rising river levels came amid continued monsoon showers across the region, with officials closely monitoring the situation.

Heavy rain continued to disrupt normal life in Himachal Pradesh, with dozens of roads blocked and essential services affected across the state. According to the State Disaster Management Authority, 75 roads remained closed as of late Thursday evening due to rain-triggered disruptions. The weather also affected 29 electricity distribution transformers (DTRs), while five water supply schemes were disrupted.

Heavy rain continued to lash Shimla for the second consecutive day on Friday, but the wet weather did little to deter tourists visiting the hill station. Despite the IMD advisory warning of heavy rainfall, visitors from across the country continued to arrive, drawn by the cool weather, mist-covered hills and lush green valleys. Many tourists said they felt safe exploring the city.

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj have stepped up flood preparedness as water levels in several rivers continue to rise with the ongoing monsoon. District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma told ANI that some rivers were nearing the danger mark, though those that typically trigger flooding in the district remained below it.

"We have ensured all preparations are in place," Verma said, adding that flood-prone villages had been identified and gaps in preparedness were being addressed.

The administration has made arrangements for sanitation, drinking water and anti-mosquito spraying in vulnerable areas. State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have also been deployed, and officials remain on alert, he said.

The IMD sounded a yellow alert in Delhi on Friday, forecasting light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for parts of western Uttar Pradesh, forecasting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours. The weather office said widespread rain is likely across the state through July 11, with temperatures expected to drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next two to three days.

As a precautionary measure, schools in Ghaziabad, Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Baghpat, Muzaffarnaga, Bijnor, Saharanpur, Moradabad districts have been ordered to remain closed on Friday.
