Odisha man attacks family of woman who rejected him, uncle killed in assault
The deceased has been identified as Binod Sahu. His wife, Hemalata Sahu, and their son and daughter were seriously injured in the attack and are undergoing treatment.

A man was allegedly beaten to death while three members of his family sustained severe injuries after they were attacked in their sleep in Odisha's Bolangir district, with police suspecting the assault was linked to a rejected marriage proposal.
The incident took place in Odisha’s Mallikmunda village on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Binod Sahu. His wife, Hemalata Sahu, and their son and daughter were seriously injured in the attack and are undergoing treatment.
The accused, identified as Surendra Sahu, allegedly fled the spot immediately after the incident and remains absconding. Police have launched a search to trace him.
According to the information available, the attack is suspected to have stemmed from a marriage proposal that was called off last year. Surendra's marriage had reportedly been fixed with a woman from Jambahal village. However, the woman's family later cancelled the alliance, allegedly due to his excessive drinking habits. Despite the wedding being called off, Surendra is said to have repeatedly contacted the woman's family, urging them to reconsider their decision.
On Friday, Surendra and his mother visited the residence of Binod Sahu, who was the woman's maternal uncle. The family, unaware of any alleged malicious intent, welcomed the two guests into their home. After having dinner with the family, Surendra and his mother stayed there for the night.
According to the preliminary account, Surendra allegedly launched the attack late at night after the family had gone to sleep. He allegedly picked up a wooden stick and repeatedly assaulted the sleeping family members. Binod Sahu died on the spot, while his wife and two children sustained serious injuries.
"I had no idea that he would commit such a heinous crime. He repeatedly beat my husband with a stick and killed him. He attacked my entire family. I want strict action to be taken against him," Hemalata Sahu said.
After receiving information about the incident, a team from the local police station reached the spot and began an investigation.
Confirming that the accused is on the run, the Superintendent of Police (SP) said the motive appeared to be linked to a love or relationship-related dispute.
"The accused fled the scene after committing the crime. We are investigating the case. The incident may have occurred due to a love or relationship-related dispute. The exact motive behind the incident will be known after the accused is arrested," the SP said.
