From refinery to chip facility: PM to launch projects worth Rs 1 lakh crore today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Rajasthan and Gujarat on Saturday to launch a series of development projects. The programme includes airport, aviation, refinery and semiconductor initiatives across both states.

With an aim to provide further imeptus to India’s economic and infrastructure growth in line with the 'Viksit Bharat 2047' vision, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Rajasthan and Gujarat on Saturday to unveil a series of major infrastructure, energy, transport and semiconductor projects aimed at strengthening India's industrial capacity, regional connectivity, clean energy ecosystem and manufacturing ambitions.
During the visti, PM Modi will inaugurate a refinery-cum-petrochemical complex, launch a semiconductor facility, open Jodhpur Airport's new terminal and unveil rail, road, metro and power projects worth over Rs 1 lakh crore.
NEW JODHPUR AIRPORT TERMINAL
PM Modi will begin his visit to Rajasthan with the inauguration of the newly constructed terminal building at Jodhpur Airport. Built at a cost of Rs 480 crore, the terminal has been designed to handle up to 20 lakh passengers annually and spans more than 23,000 square metres.
Inspired by Rajasthan's royal architectural heritage, the building incorporates traditional elements such as arches and jharokhas alongside modern passenger amenities.
The terminal has also been developed with sustainability in focus through energy-efficient systems, water conservation measures and green building practices aimed at securing a 5-Star GRIHA rating – India's highest national certification for green buildings.
BOOST TO REGIONAL CONNECTIVITY
Alongside the airport inauguration, the PM will launch the modified UDAN scheme to further strengthen regional air connectivity.
The Centre has allocated Rs 28,840 crore over the next decade for the initiative, which seeks to develop 100 aerodromes from existing unserved airstrips, construct 200 helipads, provide operational support to regional airports and continue viability gap funding for airlines.
BARMER PETROCHEMICALS FACILITY
From Jodhpur, the Prime Minister will travel to Balotra, where he will dedicate, inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects worth around Rs 1.06 lakh crore before addressing a public gathering.
The centrepiece of the visit is the inauguration of the 9 MMTPA refinery-cum-petrochemical complex at Pachpadra in Barmer district.
Developed as a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) and the Rajasthan government, the project has been built at an investment of over Rs 79,450 crore.
The refinery's inauguration had earlier been scheduled in April but was postponed following a major fire at the site a day before the proposed launch.
JAIPUR METRO PHASE 2
Prime Minister Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the second phase of the Jaipur Metro Rail Project, estimated to cost more than Rs 13,000 crore.
The proposed 41-km north-south corridor with 36 stations will connect Prahladpura to Todi Mod, linking major residential, commercial and industrial areas, including Jaipur Airport, Sitapura Industrial Area, Vishwakarma Industrial Area, SMS Hospital and Vidyadhar Nagar.
Other infrastructure projects include the dedication of the 104-km Churu-Sadulpur and Churu-Ratangarh rail doubling projects, completed at around Rs 900 crore, and the inauguration of the four-laning of the NH-125A Jodhpur Ring Road Section-II (Karwar-Dangiyawas), developed at a cost of nearly Rs 740 crore.
BIKANER SOLAR ENERGY PROJECT
In the renewable energy sector, the Prime Minister will dedicate SJVN Ltd's 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Energy Project, built at an investment of around Rs 5,500 crore, as well as NHPC's 300 MW Karnisar Bikaner Solar Energy Plant.
He will also inaugurate a transmission line for evacuating renewable power from the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone and lay the foundation stone for a 530-km power transmission system in the state.
SEMICONDUCTOR FACILITY IN GUJARAT
Later in the day, the Prime Minister will travel to Gujarat to inaugurate the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, marking the commencement of commercial production at one of the first four projects approved under the India Semiconductor Mission.
Developed with an investment of over Rs 7,500 crore, the facility is expected to manufacture up to five billion semiconductor chips annually once fully operational. The plant will cater to customers in the automotive, industrial, telecommunications, 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) sectors while offering end-to-end semiconductor assembly and testing services.
The two-state visit underscores the Centre's continued focus on expanding transport infrastructure, boosting clean energy, strengthening domestic manufacturing and advancing India's semiconductor ecosystem, with several of the projects expected to play a key role in the country's long-term economic growth and industrial self-reliance.
