PM chairs 4-hour meet with top bureaucrats; pushes for deregulation, self-reliance
The meeting, one of the first full-secretary-level interactions chaired by the PM in the current financial year, was aimed to align the bureaucracy with government's policy priorities for the second half of 2026.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired a four-hour high-level meeting of secretaries from all central government ministries and departments at Seva Teerth, with discussions focusing on deregulation, ease of doing business, ease of living and promoting self-reliance.
The meeting was attended by Cabinet Secretary TV Somanathan, the Prime Minister's Principal Secretary PK Mishra, Principal Secretary Shaktikanta Das, the Secretary of the Department of Military Affairs, and secretaries of key ministries and departments.
According to sources, the interaction centred on two key themes -- "deregulation and other reforms for ease of doing business and ease of living" and "promoting Aatmanirbharta".
During the meeting, secretaries outlined major steps being taken by their respective ministries and departments in line with these priorities. They highlighted ongoing efforts to translate the Prime Minister's vision into actionable outcomes, while also discussing sector-specific challenges and future strategies to improve governance and service delivery.
PM Modi stressed the importance of adopting a whole-of-government approach and called for breaking departmental silos, sources added. Emphasising integrated planning and coordination, he encouraged wider utilisation of the PM GatiShakti platform for inter-departmental coordination and informed decision-making.
The Prime Minister also urged secretaries to focus on the tangible impact of government schemes on people's lives.
The discussions also built on the reform priorities outlined by Modi at the Council of Ministers meeting on June 21, where he said the government would leave no stone unturned to further improve "Ease of Living" and "Ease of Doing Business" while expanding opportunities for the country's youth.
The interaction was among the first full-secretary-level meetings chaired by the Prime Minister in the current financial year and was aimed at aligning the bureaucracy with the government's policy priorities for the second half of 2026.
The meeting comes as the government sharpens its focus on long-term reforms under Modi's vision of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047, when the country will mark 100 years of Independence.
The meeting was held against the backdrop of strong economic performance despite global headwinds arising from the Middle East crisis and volatility in oil markets.
