According to initial information, the clash broke out after an argument over parking a vehicle between two groups. The dispute soon turned violent, and both sides allegedly opened fire. Jaipal Singh Bau sustained a bullet injury during the firing and was rushed to a private hospital in Amritsar for treatment.

The incident triggered panic in the Kot Atma Ram locality as gunshots were fired openly in the area. Police reached the spot after receiving information and launched an investigation into the matter.

AAP MLA from the southern constituency, Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar, visited the hospital and met the injured Jaipal Singh. Speaking to the media, Nijjar said he had received information about the firing incident in his constituency and came to check on the condition of the injured. He said doctors briefed him about the health condition of the victims and added that authorities were gathering detailed information about the incident.

Nijjar described Jaipal Singh as a senior AAP volunteer who had previously contested elections. He said the exact reason behind the incident would become clear only after a detailed investigation and added that no political rivalry angle had been confirmed so far.

Ward No 47 councillor Varpal Singh Babbar said Jaipal Singh was his close associate and linked with the AAP. Babbar said the dispute reportedly started over vehicle parking and later escalated into a violent clash between the two sides. He said Jaipal Singh was hit by one bullet while several other shots were also fired during the incident. Babbar further claimed that an attempt was also made to attack Jaipal Singh’s son.

Police official Baljinder Singh Aulakh from B Division police station said the incident took place in the Kot Atma Ram area after an argument between a youth identified as Karan and Tajinder Singh over parking a vehicle. He said the confrontation escalated into a clash, following which firing took place from both sides.

Aulakh said Jaipal Singh and Narendra Singh suffered injuries in the incident and are undergoing treatment. He added that the other side has claimed the firing was carried out in self-defence. Police are recording statements from both parties and examining the spot. Officials said further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
