Shocking: Annamalai slams TVK over rape incidents involving Vijay's party members
K Annamalai attacked Vijay's TVK after allegations that two party functionaries were involved in the gang rape of a young woman. The remarks sharpened the political focus on women's safety as TVK had not responded publicly.

Tamil Nadu's political landscape witnessed a fresh confrontation on women's safety after former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai launched a sharp attack on actor-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), citing allegations that two party functionaries were involved in the gang sexual rape of a young woman.
In a post on X, Annamalai said reports of a young woman from Tamil Nadu allegedly being deceived with the promise of employment and then subjected to gang sexual violence by two TVK-linked functionaries were "utterly shocking".
The BJP leader identified the accused as Balamurugan, described as the organiser of TVK's Thoothukudi West District Youth Wing, and Jayapal, a party administrator from the Ramanathapuram region.
POLITICAL ATTACK ON TVK
Using the allegations to target TVK's leadership, Annamalai questioned how the party would respond when its own members were accused of serious crimes.
"What response does TVK leader Mr Vijay have in store for the fact that members of his own party are engaging in criminal acts—something he spoke about regarding women's safety during election campaigns?" Annamalai asked.
He further sought to draw a contrast between TVK's political messaging and the allegations involving its functionaries.
"The question arises whether TVK, which came to power claiming alternative politics, is now treading the same path as DMK," he said.
CALL FOR STRICT ACTION
Annamalai urged the state government to ensure strict action against those responsible and called for stronger safeguards for women.
"I urge the TVK government to take stringent action against both perpetrators, and furthermore, to implement proper safety measures to ensure that such incidents, which jeopardise women's safety, do not occur," he wrote.
The remarks are likely to intensify political sparring in Tamil Nadu, where women's safety and law-and-order issues have increasingly become key talking points among rival parties.
As of now, TVK has not publicly responded to Annamalai's allegations and criticism.
