A 38-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife while he slept at their home in front of their youngest son in Telangana on Sunday night, with locals alleging the killing was triggered by a suspected extramarital relationship involving the accused.

The deceased, identified as Nagesh, was allegedly attacked with a knife by his wife, Kavitha, at their residence in a village in Mahabubnagar district. According to police, the couple had been married for around 15 years and have three sons.

Police said the attack took place while Nagesh was asleep inside the house. While the couple's eldest son was away at a college hostel, one of their younger sons was sleeping outside the house, and the youngest son was inside when the incident unfolded.

According to local residents, Nagesh cried out for help, saying his wife was attacking him, prompting the couple's youngest son to rush out and allegedly witness the assault.

The child's screams alerted neighbours, who rushed to the residence and assembled outside the house. After continuous knocking on the door, neighbours said Kavitha eventually opened it, allowing them to enter the house, where they found Nagesh lying in a pool of blood.

Neighbours rushed him to Mahabubnagar District Hospital in an auto-rickshaw. As his condition was critical, doctors referred him to Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad, where he later died during treatment.

Local residents have alleged that the murder may have been linked to a suspected extramarital relationship involving the accused. However, police have not confirmed this angle and said the motive behind the killing remains under investigation.

Devarakadra Circle Inspector Ramakrishna Reddy said Kavitha was taken into custody after the incident and a case was registered. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
