The Assam government has received a Special Investigation Team (SIT) report on allegations against Congress MP and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi. The probe centers on his and his family's alleged links to a Pakistan national, Ali Tauqeer Shaikh. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described the report as a "bombshell" and "very damning and damaging". The government intends to release a gist of the findings to the public, with the Chief Minister stating the aim is "to make people aware of the actual character of the Congress leader". While the report was discussed informally in a state cabinet meeting, its public release has been deferred. Gaurav Gogoi has previously dismissed the charges as "laughable." The submission of the SIT report ensures the political controversy will continue.
