Pellet gun use can't be justified: P Chidambaram slams govt over protest crackdown

Former Union Home Minister and Congress MP P Chidambaram on Wednesday criticised the Centre over the alleged use of pellet guns against student protesters during the anti-NEET paper leak agitation in Delhi and elsewhere. In an interview with India Today TV’s Rajdeep Sardesai, Chidambaram said pellet guns cannot be justified against unarmed, peaceful protesters and stressed that the Delhi situation was "nowhere near the rarest of rare cases" that could warrant such force. Asked about Rahul Gandhi's allegation against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he said Gandhi would take responsibility for his statement. Chidambaram sought an inquiry into who authorised the Rapid Action Force to issue and use pellet guns during the protests.
