Global policeman becoming lawbreaker: Navdeep Suri on Strait of Hormuz crisis

In an interview with India Today TV, former Indian Ambassador to the UAE, Egypt, and Australia, Navdeep Suri, discusses the escalating crisis in the Strait of Hormuz and its impact on Indian seafarers. Addressing the recent Iranian cruise missile attacks on merchant ships, Suri emphasised the urgent need for India to abandon its diplomatic silence and take a principled stand. He critiques the current global order, stating, 'When you have the global policeman becoming the principal lawbreaker... you are seeing a breakdown of the international system.' Suri urges the Indian government to reclaim its moral and strategic leverage by speaking out against violations of international law by all parties, including Iran, China, the US, and Israel. Warning against the dangers of remaining passive in global conflicts, he notes, 'If you are not on the table yourself asserting your point of view, you will be on the menu.'
