When Rajnath Singh intervened, urged Treasury benches to let Rahul Gandhi speak

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday appealed to Treasury bench MPs to remain silent and allow Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi to speak during a noisy Lok Sabha debate on the anti-paper leak bill. He also urged Speaker Om Birla to expunge any unparliamentary words used by Gandhi.

Singh's intervention came as NDA members protested Rahul Gandhi's controversial remarks in connection with the student protests, which were later expunged.

"Speaker Sir, I respectfully request that any unparliamentary words used by the Leader of the Opposition be expunged. I appeal to my Treasury bench colleagues to remain silent and listen to him (Gandhi)," Singh said, briefly easing the uproar in the House.
