The TMC worker claimed that his house was attacked due to his political affiliation.

A Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district has alleged that his house was set on fire because of his association with the party, triggering tensions in the area and prompting a police probe.

According to Suman Haldar a group of miscreants arrived at his residence at around 1.30 am and first locked the main entrance of the house from the outside before setting fire to a motorcycle parked on the premises.

With the flames spreading rapidly and the front exit blocked, Haldar and his family members reportedly escaped through the back door, narrowly avoiding a major tragedy.

A CCTV camera installed near the property has now emerged as a key piece of evidence in the investigation.

Footage purportedly shows a man wearing a cap conducting a recce of the premises shortly before the incident. After walking around the property for some time, he is seen re-entering the frame carrying a bag. The man then appears to place the bag on the ground, pick up a bottle and walk towards the house.

Haldar claims the footage supports his allegation that the attack was premeditated and motivated by his support for the Mamata Banerjee-led party.

Police have launched an investigation based on Haldar's complaint and are examining the CCTV footage along with other evidence to establish the sequence of events and identify those involved.

No arrests have been made so far, and investigators have not officially confirmed the motive behind the alleged attack.

The incident comes at a time of heightened political tensions in West Bengal, particularly in South 24 Parganas, where a series of politically sensitive incidents have been reported in recent days.

On Sunday evening, fresh controversy erupted in the district after local residents allegedly recovered a large quantity of flood-relief materials from the office of TMC MP Bapi Haldar.

Residents and BJP workers claimed that hundreds of cartons and boxes containing supplies meant for flood-affected and economically weaker families had been stored inside the MP's office instead of being distributed among beneficiaries.

The discovery triggered protests and vandalism.

Earlier on Sunday, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee alleged that he sustained a head injury after being mobbed by BJP supporters outside a police station in Hooghly district while submitting a memorandum against the arrest of party workers following the elections.

In another politically charged incident a day earlier, when TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly roughed up by a group of locals during a visit to Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas, where he had gone to meet families affected by post-poll violence.
