Bengal government likely to introduce UCC bill in Assembly on Monday

After Assam, Gujarat and Uttarakhand, now West Bengal government is likely to introduce the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill in the state Assembly next week. The bill is likely to be tabled on Monday during the ongoing budget session. Ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, the BJP pledged in its manifesto to implement the UCC within six months of coming to power in the state. If passed, West Bengal would join other states like Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Assam in establishing a common set of personal laws across all communities.
