In yet another setback for former Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, now her loyalist Madan Mitra on Wednesday joined the Trinamool Congress rebel camp. Madan Mitra, who recently served as the chief whip, resigned from all party posts, citing dissatisfaction with the growing influence of Mamata's nephew.
The rebel group, led by Ritabrata Banerjee, now claims the support of over sixty-five state legislators and asserts itself as the original party. The rebel faction has approached the Election Commission to claim the official party symbol and funds, arguing that the current leadership is responsible for recent electoral setbacks.
