Rajasthan's first AI-powered traffic awareness system goes live in Jaipur. Details
Jaipur has become the first city in Rajasthan to introduce real-time traffic awareness screens that can instantly identify vehicles with pending challans, expired insurance or invalid documents.

Getting away with traffic violations in Jaipur is about to become much harder. The city has launched Rajasthan's first real-time traffic awareness screen system, a technology-driven initiative that instantly identifies vehicles with pending challans, expired insurance, invalid pollution certificates and other document-related violations.
The new system has been introduced by Jaipur Traffic Police and the local administration as part of efforts to improve road safety and encourage better compliance with traffic rules.
The pilot project has started at Rambagh Circle and is gradually being expanded to other major roads, including JLN Marg and Tonk Road.
HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS
The technology relies on Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras installed at key intersections.
As vehicles pass through the junction, the cameras scan their registration numbers and instantly match them with records available in the national transport database.
Once a vehicle is identified, the system checks whether there are any pending traffic challans linked to it.
It also verifies the validity of important documents such as motor insurance, Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates and fitness certificates.
If any issue is found, the vehicle is flagged automatically.
VIOLATIONS APPEAR ON LARGE LED SCREENS
One of the most striking features of the system is its public awareness component. Within approximately 12 seconds of detecting a vehicle, its registration number can appear on a large LED display installed at the intersection if any violations are detected.
This allows motorists to become immediately aware of pending challans or missing documents.
The objective is not only enforcement but also encouraging drivers to clear dues and update their records before facing penalties.
TRAFFIC POLICE RECEIVE INSTANT ALERTS
The system goes beyond displaying information on screens. Once a violation is detected, an alert is automatically shared with traffic police personnel stationed at the next checkpoint.
Officers can then stop the vehicle, inform the driver about pending challans or expired documents and encourage them to resolve the issue.
Authorities have also warned that vehicles with repeated unpaid challans could face stricter action, including possible seizure in the future.
GOOD DRIVERS ARE ALSO RECOGNISED
Interestingly, the initiative is not solely focused on penalising offenders. Drivers whose vehicles have no pending challans or document issues are also acknowledged through messages displayed by the system.
Traffic police say this approach helps create awareness while encouraging responsible driving behaviour and compliance with road safety regulations.
CONTROL ROOM MONITORS THE ENTIRE NETWORK
To oversee the operation, a dedicated control room has been established near Yadgar at Ajmeri Gate. Officials monitor live feeds, traffic data and system alerts from this central facility.
According to traffic authorities, the project represents a major step towards smarter traffic management in Jaipur.
By combining surveillance technology, real-time data and on-ground enforcement, the city hopes to improve road safety, reduce violations and strengthen adherence to traffic regulations in the years ahead.
