The Varanasi Municipal Corporation will play Shiv Stotram at 55 major intersections each morning during Shravan. The plan is meant to deepen the devotional atmosphere while supporting pilgrim services, cleanliness and monsoon readiness.
Visitors and residents in Varanasi will wake up to the sound of Shiv stotra this Shravan as the Varanasi Municipal Corporation rolls out a special devotional initiative across the city. Beginning this holy month dedicated to Lord Shiva, Sanskrit hymns in praise of the deity will be played every morning through public address systems at 55 major intersections.
The decision is part of a wider Shravan action plan that also includes monsoon and flood preparedness, a plastic-free drive around temples and improved facilities for the lakhs of Kanwar pilgrims expected to visit the city during the festive period.
SHIV STOTRA TO ECHO ACROSS THE CITY
The decision was taken during the Municipal Corporation's executive committee meeting chaired by Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari at the Smart City auditorium on Tuesday.
Under the plan, Shiv stotra, a Sanskrit devotional hymn dedicated to Lord Shiva, will be played every day from 5.30 am to 6.30 am through public address systems installed at 55 prominent intersections across Varanasi throughout the month of Shravan.
Officials said the initiative aims to create a spiritual atmosphere in the temple city, which witnesses a massive influx of devotees during the sacred month.
MONSOON AND FLOOD PREPAREDNESS REVIEWED
The executive committee also reviewed the city's preparedness for the ongoing monsoon season.
Officials were directed to remain on high alert in view of the possibility of flooding and ensure a quick response to any flood-related emergency.
The civic body asked all concerned departments to stay prepared so that essential services are not disrupted if heavy rain or rising water levels affect the city.
PLASTIC-FREE DRIVE AROUND TEMPLES
As part of the Shravan preparations, the Municipal Corporation also resolved to keep the areas around Shiva temples and other places of worship free from plastic.
The move is aimed at maintaining cleanliness and reducing plastic waste during one of the busiest pilgrimage seasons in Varanasi, when thousands of devotees visit temples every day.
SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR KANWAR PILGRIMS
The executive committee also reviewed arrangements for Kanwar pilgrims, who arrive in large numbers to offer holy Ganga water to Lord Shiva.
Officials have been instructed to ensure smooth movement of pilgrims across the city and improve basic facilities along their routes.
The civic body has directed authorities to:
- Develop and maintain rest shelters for Kanwar pilgrims.
- Keep public toilets open round the clock.
- Ensure these public toilets remain free to use throughout Shravan.
