TARQ, Mumbai, presents Brick by Brac, a group exhibition conceived and organised by artists Tom Burckhardt and Sameer Kulavoor. Bringing together 10 artists from India and the United States, the exhibition explores artistic practices rooted in repetition, accumulation, process, and the gradual construction of meaning.

Featuring works by Amy Sillman, Matthew Northridge, Sameer Kulavoor, Sharon Horvath, Shruti Mahajan, Sunil Padwal, Tim Davis, Tom Burckhardt, T. Venkanna and Vishwa Shroff, the exhibition takes inspiration from the act of building.

Working across drawing, collage, photography, film and mixed media, the artists embrace a mode of making that values discovery over certainty. The exhibition highlights the value of patience and persistence, celebrating practices that grow through accumulation rather than spectacle.

For Hena Kapadia, founder of TARQ, the exhibition aligns closely with the gallery’s ethos. “The spirit of Brick by Brac echoes the collaboration and camaraderie that have been central to TARQ over the years,” she says. Kapadia adds that the exhibition reflects the type of practice the gallery has long championed: “A commitment to building a practice piece by piece, meticulously, has always been a pillar of the artists we show at TARQ.”

—The exhibition runs at TARQ, Mumbai, till July 4
