Cocktail 2 box office Day 9: Shahid's film surpasses lifetime haul of 2012 original

Filmmaker Homi Adajania's Cocktail 2, starring Shahid Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon, has surpassed the lifetime India nett collection of the 2012 hit Cocktail despite witnessing a slowdown at the box office after a strong opening weekend. The romantic drama has now earned Rs 78.75 crore nett in India, overtaking the original film's Rs 71 crore lifetime haul, while its worldwide gross stands at Rs 120.72 crore.

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Cocktail 2 has earned Rs 120.72 crore worldwide gross so far, including Rs 93.97 crore India gross and Rs 26.75 crore overseas. The film's India nett collection now stands at Rs 78.75 crore, comfortably overtaking the original Cocktail, which had finished its run with Rs 71 crore India nett and Rs 122.99 crore worldwide gross.

On its ninth day, the film collected Rs 4.25 crore nett across 3,946 shows, taking its domestic total to Rs 78.75 crore nett. While the milestone is noteworthy, the film's box office momentum has slowed considerably after its strong opening weekend.

Cocktail 2 had opened on a solid note, collecting Rs 13.50 crore on Friday, followed by Rs 16.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 17.75 crore on Sunday. Its opening weekend total crossed Rs 47 crore, setting expectations for a sustained theatrical run.

However, collections began to decline from Monday onward. The film earned Rs 6.75 crore each on Monday and Tuesday, followed by Rs 5.25 crore on Wednesday and Rs 4.25 crore on Thursday. It wrapped up its first week with a healthy Rs 70.50 crore nett collection.

The second week has brought little improvement for the film. After earning Rs 4 crore on its second Friday, it managed Rs 4.25 crore on Saturday, showing limited growth. Instead of the customary weekend jump, the film registered another drop, indicating a softer audience turnout than expected.

Directed by Homi Adajania and written by Luv Ranjan and Tarun Jain, Cocktail 2 serves as a spiritual successor to the 2012 romantic drama. Backed by producers Dinesh Vijan, Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg under Maddock Films and Luv Films, the film features Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles.
