The Golmaal team had recently shared a picture from their shoot, evoking excitement among fans. The actor confirmed that the next instalment of Rohit Shetty's blockbuster comedy franchise is currently being shot and said reuniting with the cast has been nothing short of nostalgic.

"We are still making that film. We have been shooting for it. It's been great fun to meet all of them and just go back to the characters that we played 7-8 years ago and even before that. As the teaser said, they have been doing this for 20 years; I joined in the third one, but it's great fun being on that set. And I really hope that it kind of translates into something that people also enjoy as much because I know that's probably one of the most loved franchises in the Hindi film industry. All of us hope that it kind of delivers to fans' standards," he added.

The Golmaal franchise began in 2006 with Golmaal: Fun Unlimited and went on to become one of Hindi cinema's most successful comedy series. Kunal joined the ensemble in Golmaal 3 (2010) and has remained an integral part of the franchise ever since.

The actor further had some good news for fans of Madgaon Express, the sleeper hit comedy that marked Kunal's directorial debut in 2024. Ever since the film's successful theatrical run, audiences have been hoping for another outing with Dodo, Ayush and Pinku (Divyendu Sharma, Avinash Tiwary and Pratik Gandhi).

Turns out, Kunal has already taken the first step to kickstart the sequel, as he confirmed the sequel, saying, "I am aware of fans demanding it. And yes, it is in the works. I have actually written it. But there's time."

Kunal further went on to share that people in the industry initially wondered about his acting career after his successful transition behind the camera. He said, "I think initially there were some people who asked me, 'Will you be acting now?' I said, of course, that's my first love, and I will always do that. But I think now they know, and I did something like Single Papa after Madgaon Express, and then I have also cast myself in my next film Vibe. Now I am doing this (Alliance), so yes, and I think if the message is not there, I am just putting it out there – 'I am still acting guys'!"

While films continue to keep him busy, Kunal said he is also exploring an entirely different medium as the host of Alliance. And unlike many celebrity hosts who consciously cultivate a television persona, the actor said he has never believed in projecting an image for the audience. He said he has never taken up any project with the intention of shaping a public image, adding that he has also never relied on PR to build a certain perception of himself.

He smiled to further say that when Alliance came his way, he was surprised that the makers had approached him in the first place. "Even with this show, I asked these guys, 'Why have you come to me? Why did you think of me? What about me says that I am good for this?' And they said, 'The idea is to do something different because you don't fit in. And we'll see'. I said, 'Okay, then all the best,' Kunal added with a laugh.

Alliance is available for streaming on Prime Video.
