Jim Sarbh recalls being mesmerised by Naseeruddin Shah at 18: This is incredible
Actor Jim Sarbh recalled being awestruck by Naseeruddin Shah's stage performance at 18 and calls working with the veteran actor in Made in India – A Titan Story a dream come true.
Actors Jim Sarbh and Naseeruddin Shah will be seen together in Made in India – A Titan Story. Ahead of the series' release, Sarbh spoke to India Today about his admiration for the veteran actor, recalling how he first watched Shah perform on stage at the age of 18 and was left completely mesmerised.
Speaking exclusively to India Today, Sarbh, who shares screen space with Naseeruddin Shah for the first time, said, “I've known him for many years. I first saw him in a play when I was 18 — The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. I loved watching him and remember thinking, ‘Oh my God, who is this guy? This is incredible.’”
At the time, however, Sarbh admitted he was unfamiliar with Shah's celebrated body of work in Hindi cinema.
“Everyone outside was telling me, ‘He's a big Bollywood actor. You don't know anything. You haven't watched Bollywood films growing up. You're an idiot. Watch these films,’” he recalled.

Following that advice, Sarbh began exploring Shah's filmography and soon understood why the actor is regarded as one of India's finest performers.
“So, I did, and saw Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, and then I realised just how good he is, and the kind of spontaneity and rawness he brings to every character. You really feel like you're watching a person going through something. You feel like things are happening to this person right in front of your eyes,” he said.
Sarbh added that Shah's ability to make every performance feel authentic left a lasting impression on him.
It was a dream for me to work with him
Years later, Sarbh has finally had the opportunity to work alongside the actor he once admired from afar in Made in India – A Titan Story.
“I love that. It was a dream for me to work with him. I'd always hoped that one day I'd be cast opposite him in something — maybe as his son, maybe something else. And in a way, I got to do that because we share a kind of father-son relationship, as well as a mentor-mentee dynamic,” he said.
The actor added that he thoroughly enjoyed the experience and hopes they will collaborate again in the future.
“So, I loved it, and I hope to work with him again.”
