Exclusive: Rajkumar Hirani on Munna Bhai sequel, PK 2 with Ranbir Kapoor
While promoting Pritam and Pedro, Rajkumar Hirani said Munna Bhai 3 and a possible PK sequel are both on his mind.

Seeing filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani and his 'Circuit' Arshad Warsi promoting Pritam and Pedro together, fans have been hoping for another Munna Bhai film. And while that tops the list, many also believe that the filmmaker needs to revisit PK and make a sequel with Ranbir Kapoor, as suggested in the post-credits. Speaking exclusively to India Today, Hirani admitted that both ideas are very much on his mind.
While he confessed that Munna Bhai 3 has been in development for years, he stressed that he has no intention of making a sequel unless he is completely satisfied with the script. "It's in the works, but I really can't defend myself too much because it's been in the works for a very long time. But we keep picking it up and spending some time on it. So it's like [we are] inching closer. I definitely want to make [a sequel] but not a substandard one. I will do it only when we believe it's a great script now," he said.
When asked if he also plans to bring Ranbir Kapoor for a PK sequel, Hirani smiled and said he often thinks about revisiting that world too. "Keep thinking about it. Main iska bhi soch raha hoon. Iska bhi sequel banega aur banana padega (I am also thinking of Pritam and Pedro sequel. We will make that too)," he added with a smile.
Arshad Warsi, who was also part of the conversation, weighed in on why he believes audiences continue to ask for sequels to the filmmaker's stories. According to him, it all comes down to memorable characters that people don't want to let go of. He added that even Pritam and Pedro are such multi-dimensional characters that they would make for some interesting new stories.
Speaking about his long-standing friendship and creative partnership with Hirani, the actor said the filmmaker's infectious sense of humour often rubs off on him whenever they're together. "I think it's just usually that there's a certain kind of sense of humour that Raju has, I have, and Sanju has. When we are there together, that kind of conversation is good fun," Arshad said.
Raju shot back, saying how Arshad has a way of finding humour in everything: "So when I meet him, I also kind of become like him. And when I step out, then I become a little serious person. But with him, I enjoy it. We crack jokes, without any agenda," he said.
Pritam and Pedro is scheduled to release on JioHotstar on July 3.
