Rajkumar Hirani shuts down '4th Idiot' buzz, confirms 3 Idiots sequel is in works

Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani broke his silence on the much-awaited sequel of 3 Idiots, confirming that the film is indeed in the works. In an exclusive chat with India Today, the 63-year-old director shared that the script is still being developed and dismissed that there would be an addition to the cast.
After Aamir Khan confirmed that he is gearing up for a 3 Idiots sequel, fans have been buzzing with excitement. There were also reports of a 'fourth idiot' joining the superstar, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi, with Vicky Kaushal's name doing the rounds as the new entrant. Now, the director has put those speculations to rest.
Talking about the film, Hirani shared that while an initial idea is in place, the writing process is still underway. "Aamir had read a very early draft; the overall idea is there. I don't know... he must have been doing some media interviews [and spoken about it]. But we are still in the process of writing because we are also very excited about it," he said.
The director also addressed speculation about the film introducing a new character and being titled 4 Idiots. Clarifying that no new 'idiot' is joining the gang, Hirani said with a smile, "Mujhe bhi pata laga hai ki iska naam '4th Idiots' hai. Woh maine nahi rakha, woh kahin media ne rakhi hai (I also got to know that it's being titled 4 Idiots. I have not titled it; the media has only created this). Honestly, there's no 4th idiot, it's 3 Idiots only, it's 20 years later [from where we ended]."
