Priyadarshan calls Saif Ali Khan greedy after first collaboration in Haiwaan

Saif Ali Khan is set to collaborate with filmmaker Priyadarshan for the first time in the upcoming psychological thriller Haiwaan. Ahead of the film’s release, Priyadarshan opened up about his experience working with the actor, praising his commitment, curiosity and ability to surrender to a director’s vision. He also had an interesting way of describing Saif, calling him a “little greedy” but “very obedient” actor.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, the director praised the 55-year-old actor in a quirky manner and said, "I found him a very obedient actor, a little greedy but a very obedient actor, so that is the best part about him. I think he developed a certain kind of confidence in me, which really helped me to take the film forward in a very smooth way,” Priyadarshan said.

The Bhool Bhulaiyaa director said he found Saif quite mature despite his curious approach to the character.

“I found him a very mature child because he has a lot of questions every time, and of course, every actor has the right question, but the moment it is answered, he just obeys you,” he said.

The filmmaker added that their equation evolved quickly once Saif understood his approach. “After two days, I found that there was no question, so I asked him in the morning, ‘Any questions?’ He said, ‘No sir, now I know what you want to shoot.’ So that actually builds our confidence with each other, and that is the way it went on.”

Priyadarshan also praised Saif for his discipline on set, revealing that the actor would spend his breaks reading rather than scrolling through his phone. The filmmaker said Saif’s love for books also made their conversations particularly interesting.

Admitting that he is a fan of Saif’s royal lineage, Priyadarshan said he enjoyed spending time with the actor. “I could discuss a lot of things with him because I am a huge Nawab Pataudi fan, so I spent a lot of time with him,” the director said.

Meanwhile, the makers recently unveiled the teaser of Haiwaan, with Saif playing a visually challenged protagonist, while Akshay Kumar features as the antagonist. The film marks Saif and Akshay’s reunion on screen after 18 years, following their 2008 action-comedy Tashan.

Haiwaan is scheduled to release in theatres on September 11.
