Actor Celina Jaitly has urged women to consider signing a prenuptial agreement before marriage, especially if they own personal assets. In an exclusive interaction with India Today, the actor stressed the importance of financial independence and said that while relationships may begin with love, financial matters can become a source of conflict if a marriage ends.
Speaking to India Today's Gaurav Sawant about the need for a prenup, the 44-year-old advised women to safeguard their hard-earned wealth and property. She said, “I would recommend girls, please do a prenup if you have assets of your own. Please do a prenup before marrying. Keep your assets separate always. Because, you know, it all boiled down to assets. All the love, all the care, all the promises of togetherness, the children, the deaths, the births, everything boiled down to an asset at the end of the day. And that is what my biggest heartache is.”
Celina’s advice comes amid her ongoing divorce battle with husband Peter Haag. Earlier, during the same conversation, Jaitly recalled receiving a divorce notice in Austria just before her 15th wedding anniversary, saying the document was read out to her by her twin sons. The No Entry actor initially thought the letter was from the municipality or related to her residence status, and even joked with her husband about whether the authorities had sent her some money.
She said the notice, which she described as having been served on the pretext of a wedding anniversary gift, contained allegations against her and said that the marriage had suffered an “irretrievable breakdown”.
