Alleged leaked chats circulated by Janhvi Kapoor's fan clubs suggest that the actor had raised concerns about camera angles and the portrayal of her character in Peddi long before the film came under public scrutiny.

Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Peddi, fan clubs of Janhvi Kapoor have shared alleged private chats that appear to show the actor raising concerns about the filming of certain scenes long before the film came under public scrutiny. The messages surfaced a day after director Buchi Babu Sana apologised for criticism over the film's portrayal of women and have reignited discussions about how the female lead was presented on screen.

According to screenshots circulated by fan pages, Janhvi repeatedly objected to specific camera angles used while filming scenes featuring her character. One of the most widely shared messages, reportedly dated October 30, shows the actor writing, “I told him no b**b and waist shots (sic).”

In the same exchange, she reportedly claimed that co-star Ram Charan had stepped in to support her concerns. "And Ram sir is so sweet. He also yelled at him and said, 'You will not take such angles of her ever again.' So he got upset (sic)," the message read.

The chats appear to suggest that the concerns were directed at director Buchi Babu Sana and that discussions about the visual portrayal of her character may have taken place internally during production.

In another message, Janhvi appeared to describe the issue as part of a broader pattern within the industry, writing, “It keeps happening in the south (sic).”

The conversation reportedly continued when fans compared the situation to criticism faced by Kiara Advani in Game Changer. Responding to the comparison, Janhvi allegedly wrote, “No, in this what they were taking was worse. But Ram sir said no way, stop (sic).”

The screenshots also touched on questions of consent and creative control. In one exchange, the actor expressed frustration over her attempts to communicate her concerns, writing, “You have no idea what I've been dealing with. Trying to make them understand (sic).”

She also reportedly discussed the presence of actors' parents on film sets, citing actor Sreeleela as an example. Janhvi allegedly remarked that if her father, producer Boney Kapoor, were to visit her sets, matters could become "extreme."

Another message reflected her distrust of how scenes might eventually be filmed or edited. Responding to a fan's warning about body doubles, she allegedly wrote, “Ya I've said this but you know how it is here. They'll say close up and put camera on your cleavage. U can't trust anything (sic).”

Perhaps the most emotional moment in the leaked conversation came when the actor appeared exhausted by the experience. In one message, she reportedly said, “No more film. We are done.”

However, the authenticity of the leaked chats has not been independently verified. While fan clubs have circulated screenshots and a video purportedly showing the conversation, neither Janhvi Kapoor nor her team has publicly commented on or authenticated the messages.

WHY PEDDI IS FACING CRITICISM?

The alleged chats surfaced as Peddi continues to face criticism from audiences over its depiction of Janhvi's character, Achiyyamma. Several viewers have argued that the film focuses excessively on the character's physical appearance rather than her narrative arc, while others have questioned scenes involving consent and agency.

The backlash prompted director Buchi Babu Sana to issue a public statement on Saturday. "As a filmmaker, I believe cinema should entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected," he wrote.

Acknowledging the criticism, the filmmaker added, "We have heard the feedback regarding certain scenes in Peddi and have taken it seriously," and said the team would make changes to the portions that had drawn objections.

The filmmaker said that if any part of the film had been perceived in that manner, the team respected those sentiments, understood the concerns being raised and sincerely apologised. He further noted that cinema evolves alongside its audiences and that storytellers must remain mindful of changing perspectives and sensitivities.
