Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has raised concerns over the growing number of remixed Bollywood songs, after the recent release of recreated versions of Chunnari Chunnari and Ucha Lamba Kad. In a recent social media post, he questioned what the industry would have left to remix in the future if every major hit from two decades ago was already being brought back.

Gupta, in his X post wrote, "Film music in 2026: every super-hit from 20 years ago has been remixed and released. My genuine concern: what will they remix in 2046? The remixes (sic)?" His remark came as more old chartbusters returned in repackaged form.

A few days ago, the remix of Chunnari Chunnari from Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai was released. The song is an iconic track from the 1999 blockbuster Biwi No 1, which featured Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen.

Recently, Salman Khan took a jibe at Varun for remaking many of his songs. At the David Dhawan Film Festival last week, Salman jokingly said, "Isne mera ek aur gaana uthaya (He stole another song of mine)," referring to the recreation of one of his iconic songs. Reacting to the playful remark, Varun added, "Bahi rehne do (please stop it, brother)."

On Monday, the producers of Welcome to the Jungle released a remix of Ucha Lamba Kad, recreating the popular song from Welcome featuring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif. The new song titled Ucha Lamba Kad Forever also features Akshay alongside Disha Patani.

Welcome To The Jungle is produced by Firoz A Nadiadwala under the banner of Base Industries Group and directed by Ahmed Khan. The film is set for a theatrical release on June 26, 2026.

In another X post, Gupta wrote, "Hypothetical but important: Bollywood is banned from prequels, sequels, remakes and remixes. Original ideas only. What happens? A) Best era of Indian cinema begins. B) Industry collapses in 6 months (sic)."

Gupta's last directorial was the 2024 sports drama film, The Miranda Brothers.
