Christopher Nolan's Spider-Man: Far From Home joke leaves Tom Holland in splits

Director Christopher Nolan and actors Matt Damon, Tom Holland and producer Emma Thomas attended the press conference of their film, The Odyssey, at a five-star hotel in South Mumbai.

Nolan's fan following in India is insane and he was asked about it. “I believe that films have a universal language. One of the reasons I enjoy about working on large-scale films is that you get to take them around the world and you get to connect with different cultures all across the world. When films really connect and have universal themes, which I hope The Odyssey does, it’s wonderful how it brings us all together. For us, to go on a road and travel and come here so, I was supposed to say, far from home,” he replied, as reported by Bollywood Hungama.

The last sentence was a pun on Tom Holland’s 2019 film, Spider-Man: Far From Home. It led to a lot of laughter and Nolan joked, “If you see only one Tom Holland film this summer…”

Saving Matt Damon: How The Odyssey keeps Hollywood's $600 million joke alive

The internet has few running jokes as dependable as this one: Hollywood simply cannot stop spending absurd amounts of money to bring Matt Damon home.

Lose him on a World War II battlefield? Send a squad after him. Strand him on Mars? Assemble NASA. Leave him floating somewhere near Saturn? Matthew McConaughey will sort it out.

The meme has survived for years because it feels strangely accurate. Every few years, Damon ends up playing someone the entire movie revolves around rescuing. Fans have even joked that Hollywood has spent "over $600 million" trying to get Matt Damon back. Not quite.

The Odyssey India Premiere: Tom Holland shares experience of shooting on IMAX

Actor Tom Holland opened up about the unique challenges of shooting The Odyssey on IMAX cameras, describing the experience as unlike any other in his career. Speaking at the film's India premiere in Mumbai, the actor credited the crew for maintaining the pace on set and explained how his theatre background helped him adapt to the demanding format.

"Shooting in IMAX requires a lot of collaboration with not only the directors, but also the camera crew. We were lucky that our camera crew was like those of F1 because they were so fast. We were doing such emotional scenes that their death would have been the loss of momentum. Our team made sure we never lost momentum. So, a lot of credit should go to them. I was really lucky I did theatre before doing this movie because a lot of the shooting in IMAX is like shooting a stage play, because you know these moments are fleeting and if you don't get them right, you'll have to wait till tomorrow," he said.

Christopher Nolan visit: Why did the filmmaker chose India for premiere?

The filmmaker, who is in India for the launch of his upcoming film The Odyssey, revealed the reason behind chosing the country for the promotional activity. He said, "Oh, well, that's easy. I mean, I first came to Mumbai years ago, brought by my friend Shivendra to a conference about the future of film. I met a lot of filmmakers and really got to know a little bit about the film culture here. I've never been anywhere in the world with an appreciation of what movies can be and what they should be for audiences. And to me, it seemed crazy that we would be bringing our films here to Mumbai for the audiences. So it's an absolute thrill to be able to do this.
We actually intended to come with Tenet because it was filmed here in Mumbai. And then, because of the pandemic, we weren't able to."

The Odyssey India Premiere: Matt Damon wants to work with this Indian filmmaker

During the press conference, actor Matt Damon shared his interest of working with Shekhar Kapur. Impressed by his style, the Hollywood stars said, "I remember that when we were starting out, everyone wanted to collaborate with Shekhar Kapur. I remember when I couldn't do The Four Feathers for some reason. I was really upset about that. I think I was signed up for a Bourne movie. So, I guess, he has always been on my list and I would like to have another go. That's like a 20-year-old little debt I've been carrying around in my pocket."
