Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and superstar Rajinikanth arrived to pay their last respects to veteran filmmaker, actor and screenwriter K Bhagyaraj, who died after suffering a heart attack in Chennai on Saturday. The two were seen offering their condolences to Bhagyaraj's family as members of the film fraternity, political leaders and fans gathered to bid farewell to one of Tamil cinema's most influential creative voices.

In a video from the venue, Chief Minister Vijay was seen paying floral tributes to Bhagyaraj before offering his condolences to the filmmaker's wife, actor Poornima Bhagyaraj, and their son, actor Shanthanu Bhagyaraj.

Rajinikanth also paid his respects to the late filmmaker and met the bereaved family.

Bhagyaraj died at the age of 73, leaving behind a legacy that shaped Tamil cinema through his exceptional storytelling, screenplay writing and middle-class family dramas. The Tamil Nadu government has announced state honours for the veteran filmmaker's final journey in recognition of his immense contribution to the film industry.

Born as Krishnaswamy Bhagyaraj in Tamil Nadu's Erode district, he began his career as an assistant to legendary filmmaker Bharathiraja before emerging as one of Tamil cinema's most celebrated writer-directors.

Over the course of his career, he directed more than 25 films and acted in over 75 movies. He was widely regarded as one of the industry's finest screenwriters, with classics such as Mundhanai Mudichu, Andha 7 Naatkal and Darling, Darling, Darling earning him a devoted fan following.

Bhagyaraj is survived by his wife, former actor Poornima Bhagyaraj, and their children, actor Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and daughter Saranya Bhagyaraj. His funeral is being held with state honours at Chennai's Besant Nagar crematorium.
