Karthi's Sardar 2 release date announced, clashes with Rashmika-Vijay's Ranabaali
Karthi's Sardar 2 will release in theatres this September, the makers announced with a new glimpse. The sequel enters a crowded window, opening after Toxic and a day before Ranabaali.

The release calendar for September just got busier. Karthi's much-awaited spy thriller Sardar 2 is set to arrive in theatres on September 10, the makers announced on Wednesday. The sequel will release just a day before Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna's Ranabaali, setting up an interesting box-office clash across South Indian markets.
Announcing the release date, Karthi shared a brief teaser on social media and wrote, "#Sardar2 ARRIVES Worldwide in theatres on September 10!"
The video features an explosion unfolding in the background as Karthi stands armed with a gun. The glimpse offers a look at Agent Sardar, also known as Chandra Bose, one of the actor's dual roles in the franchise. Karthi also reprises the role of Vijay Prakash in the sequel.

All about Sardar 2
Directed by PS Mithran, Sardar 2 has been written by Rathna Kumar, Ashameera Aiyappan and Vignesh Muniyandi, with Nambi credited for the screenplay. The film is backed by Prince Pictures and IVY Entertainment.
Karthi and Rajisha Vijayan return to reprise their roles from the first film, while SJ Suryah, Malavika Mohanan and Ashika Ranganath join the cast in key roles.
The film serves as a sequel to Sardar (2022), which emerged as one of the biggest hits of Karthi's career, collecting around Rs 84.5 crore worldwide. Apart from Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: I and Ponniyin Selvan: II, it remains among the actor's highest-grossing releases. Given Karthi's strong fan following in the Telugu states, Sardar 2 will also be released in Telugu.
The sequel's production had earlier faced a setback during its first schedule in Chennai in July 2024. Stunt performer Ezhumalai died after falling from a 20-foot rostrum on the third day of filming. Following the incident, Karthi visited the family to pay his respects. The Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) also halted shooting activities for a day and organised a safety awareness session for film artistes and technicians.
Meanwhile, Rahul Sankrityan's period drama Ranabaali, starring Vijay Deverakonda, Rashmika Mandanna and Arnold Vosloo, is scheduled to hit theatres on September 11 in multiple languages, including Hindi. Both films will arrive shortly after Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, directed by Geetu Mohandas and headlined by Yash, which is slated for release on August 26.
