Vijay turns 52: Wishes pour in from PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi, MK Stalin, Kamal Haasan
Vijay's birthday drew messages from political leaders, film personalities and fans across social media. The celebrations also renewed focus on Jana Nayagan, which is still awaiting final CBFC certification.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay celebrated his birthday on Monday, with social media flooded by wishes from fans, political leaders and members of the film fraternity. The actor-politician turned 52.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his greetings, writing, "Birthday greetings to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru C. Joseph Vijay Ji. I pray for his long and healthy life (sic)."
Among those who wished Vijay was Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. In his message, he wrote, "Wishing the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru Joseph Vijay, a very happy birthday. I wish you good health and success in all your efforts. I stand with you in defending the rights, dignity, and aspirations of the Tamil people, and in working together for the state's progress (sic)."
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin shared his wishes as well. "Heartfelt birthday wishes to the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru S. Joseph Vijay. I wish you the strength to continue serving the public with joy and physical and mental well-being (sic)," he posted.
Actor Kamal Haasan also joined the celebrations. In his message, he wrote, "Heartfelt birthday wishes to the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, President of the Vijay Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, and my beloved younger brother Vijay, who has earned the love of millions (sic)."
Fans and several film personalities continued to post birthday wishes across social media, making Vijay one of the biggest trends of the day.
Jana Nayagan release stalled
But amid the celebrations, one question continued to dominate fan conversations: When will Vijay's final film Jana Nayagan finally release?
While birthday messages poured in throughout the day, there was still no fresh update on Vijay's much-awaited film, which remains stuck in the certification process. Originally scheduled to hit theatres on January 9, Jana Nayagan is yet to receive its final clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
However, the spotlight also remained firmly on Jana Nayagan. The film's release was delayed after members of the CBFC reportedly raised concerns over scenes that could potentially hurt public sentiment. Reports also suggested that certain dialogues and sequences were seen as carrying political undertones that could benefit Vijay and his party during the recently concluded Assembly elections.
The CBFC's regional panel had reportedly recommended a UA 16+ certificate, but the certification process stalled after an internal complaint by one of the board members. Producer KVN Productions later approached the Madras High Court, seeking directions to expedite the certification process. However, after nearly a month, the makers withdrew their petition and opted to continue through the CBFC's regular certification procedure.
The film has since been screened before the Revising Committee, but a final certificate is still awaited.
Directed by H Vinoth and produced by Venkat K Narayana under KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan features Vijay alongside Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani and Narain. The music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
