A 23-year-old student, Harshit Bhatt, died after reportedly drowning in a water-filled pit in Noida’s Sector 94 while celebrating with friends. Police said the group had gathered at a 20-foot-deep excavation site owned by the Noida Authority, where they were allegedly consuming alcohol. Despite reportedly knowing how to swim, Bhatt entered deeper water and began to struggle. His body was recovered after a 45-minute search and he was declared dead at a hospital.
The incident has raised fresh questions over why such hazardous pits remain open, despite earlier assurances of proper barricading after a previous fatality.
