PhD scholar dies of electrocution; university blamed for negligence

A routine walk to class ended in tragedy for 26-year-old Panjab University PhD scholar Jyoti, who allegedly died after coming into contact with a live electric pole on July 28. Her death sparked protests, with students accusing the university administration of negligence and demanding the Vice-Chancellor's resignation. The university has announced ₹16 lakh in compensation for her family and offered her brother a job on campus. Meanwhile, the post-mortem examination is underway.
